The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has said that the yearly recruitment of 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force is unprecedented in Africa.

According to him, the policy demonstrates President Mohammadu Buhari’s commitment to addressing the manpower deficiency in the Nigeria Police Force.

Baba was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG zone six, Okunlola Kamaldeen at the Passing Out Parade of the 2020 Batch of Police Recruits at the Police Training School in Calabar.

He disclosed that the 2020 batch of recruited constables would be deployed to their various Local Government Areas of origin to deepen the community policing strategy of the federal government.

Baba informed that the next set of ten thousand recruits would soon begin training under the 2021 batch.

“The Federal Government policy of recruiting ten thousand Police Constables annually is unprecedented in the history of law enforcement in Nigeria.

“With today’s POP, in order to deepen the Community Policing approach of the federal government, they are to be deployed to local government areas, while we proceed with the training of the 2022 batch..”

Speaking about the graduating recruits earlier, Commandant of the Police Training School Calabar, ACP Gambo Dauda Erena, said 581 recruit constables who underwent the training, have been found worthy, both in character and learning.

“We want to encourage them to imbibe the virtues of discipline and commitment to duty in the course of their career with the Nigeria Police Force. They must be good representatives of the force as they leave the school.”
