YOBE RESIDENT DOCTORS KICK AGAINST JOINING NATIONWIDE WARNING STRIKE
The Yobe State wing of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has resolved not to join the five days warning strike embarked upon by the national body throughout the country.
The President of the association in Yobe State, Dr. Mai Bukar Kalli, who made the position of the association known after a meeting with the Secretary to the State Government Baba Mallam Wali in Damaturu, said the administration of Governor Buni has been meeting most of their demands, especially in the provision of the state of the art equipment and improved condition of service.
Dr. Kalli explained that Yobe is one of the states that is recuperating from the effects of Boko Haram insurgency which created setback to many sectors including healthcare, hence joining the warning strike will only create more harm to the post-insurgency recovery process in the sector.
He further stated that most members of the association in Yobe are being sponsored by the state government and cannot complain of being abandoned as is the case in many places.
“We are right now experiencing a very harsh weather condition occasioned by heat wave that aggravates the condition of the weak and aged people as well as those with underlying ailments that require serious medical attention, therefore joining the warning strike will only create more hardship to those in need of medical services at this time”, he argued.
The Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, who commended the members of the Association for the effort, also said their foresight will go a long way in not only saving lives but also in improving the health sector in the state.
