The Lagos State Government in partnership with the United States Consulate General Lagos has stressed the need for residents to adopt environmentally friendly practices in order to tackle air pollution in the state.

The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, disclosed this, according to a statement on Sunday, during an advocacy walk/interactive session themed, ‘Eko for clean air.’

She said, “We continuously carry out advocacy and public education on various environmental issues across the various strata of the population.

“Our youths are engaged to adopt more sustainable lifestyles and champion environmental courses, through our school advocacy programmes and more zonal offices were also created to meet varied challenges confronting the state.

“Air pollution in the state can be curbed through measures which include planting of trees to create more green areas, using only eco-friendly products, stopping open burning of refuse, regular servicing vehicles and generators, use of alternate mode of transportation (waterways/rails), practising carpooling as well as reducing fossil fuel and embracing renewable energy. Collectively we can win the battle against pollution.”

The acting consular of the US Consulate-General, Lagos, Mr Bradon Hudspeth, noted that the state will be supported with technical expertise in order to ensure clean and better air quality.

“The US government will be partnering Lagos State government in order to ensure clean and better air quality and Lagos State will be supported with technical expertise to raise awareness, monitor air quality and also use collated data from monitoring to boost the economy of the state,” he said.
