The United States (U.S) has said it plans to spend $2.6 billion for gender equity and equality worldwide.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced this yesterday in a statement to mark the International Women’s Day.

President Joe Biden, he said, will, in the 2023 Budget, request for the money for foreign assistance programmes that promote gender equity and equality worldwide. This would more than double the amount requested for gender programmes in the 2022 Budget.

The United States, Blinken said, is proud to join the global community in celebrating the achievements and contributions of women and girls from around the world, while simultaneously recognising the barriers they continue to face.

He added that the U.S would not waiver in its commitment to the advancement of gender equity and equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
